Undercover officers were watching the man about 6:30 p.m. at a location along Federal Road and the East Freeway about 6:30 p.m. when he suddenly drove away in an Oldsmobile Alero.
"Our officers attempted to do a traffic stop but he refuses,"' said Victor Senties, an HPD spokesman.
He wrecked the car at a spot along the East Freeway at Gregg then carjacked a white Ford Escort and continued fleeing police, authorities said.
The suspect, who has not been officially identified, drove at speeds in excess of 100 mph along the East Freeway into Harris County.
The pursuit finally ended about 7 p.m. when he crashed into a Ford pickup truck near John Ralston at Highway 90.
