ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The "Claw and Antlers" have become a
big part of the playoff chase for the AL West-leading Texas
Rangers.
Popular T-shirts worn by Rangers players and fans feature a
"claw" on the front and have the head of a deer whose antlers are
formed by a pair of spread-open hands on the back. The head of a
10-point buck is mounted over AL MVP candidate Josh Hamilton's
locker in the clubhouse.
The "claw" - a quick hand gesture with fingers curled
bear-like - symbolizes a good play. "Antlers" represent speed -
such as "run like a deer."
Michael Young says the symbols build camaraderie.
Texas enjoyed its final off day of the regular season Thursday
with a season-high 10-game division lead.
