AS REPORTED IN THE NACOGDOCHES DAILY SENTINEL:
Nacogdoches City Council approved the 2011 tax rate, the 2010-11 fiscal year budget and a 5% increase in water rates effective October 1, at their meeting Tuesday night.
Councilman William Sanders did not vote in favor of the tax rate or the 5-percent increase in water rates, because he said citizens he talked with were against it.
"I talked to everybody in all the districts, and nobody is for the water rate raise," he said. "We need to look at some other way (to generate revenue), and I have enough feedback from my constituents all over town that nobody wants this."
