Study to show consolidating Lufkin facility's work with Tyler Distrtibution Center
The Lufkin Daily News is reporting; The U.S. Postal Service plans to conduct a study at the Lufkin Processing and Distribution Site for possible consolidation of some operations into the East Texas Processing and Distribution Center in Tyler, according to a press release from the agency.
The study, known as an Area Mail Processing study, involves a review of the mail processing and transportation operations to determine capacity needs at a facility in order to increase efficiency and improve productivity, the report stated.
U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) sent out a release Thursday in response to the USPS planned study.
“Like most postal center have been in their respective regions, the Lufkin Processing and Distribution Site has been a central component to not only the city of Lufkin, but Angelina County and surrounding counties as well. We were told that keeping the facility open any longer would be ‘fiscally irresponsible,’ and therefore we need a study or survey to tell us what the effect of such closure would be,” Gohmert stated in the release.
