Many Montanans live in and around wildlife, but sometimes mother nature has a way of sneaking up on you.
One woman who lives in the mountains west of Missoula experienced a close encounter with an adult black bear that was a little too close for comfort.
Authorities have released the 911 audio of her call for help.
She doesn't want us to use her name, but shortly after midnight last Wednesday she called Missoula 911.
"Hi, my dogs and I were just attacked by a bear in my backyard, on my back porch. I turned on the light and I was going to take the dogs out to go to the bathroom, their last night and they stood on the back porch and barked and a bear came running down the hill attacked the dogs and tried to get into the house and attacked me," she told the operator.
The bear had already swiped at the woman.
"My pants are pretty well ripped up and I just got one spot on my leg. That's where he caught either a claw or tooth. It's a little bloody," she continued.
After attacking the woman, the bear then turned back to the dog a second time.
She was able to fend off the bear by throwing a zucchini at it.
It worked, but, it left her a little shook up.
The 911 call ended as she told the dispatcher how frightened the event left her.
"The fact that he came down the hill and attacked the dogs that where on the back porch and tried to get into the house, that's scary," the woman stated.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks set a trap hoping to catch the bear, but it's turned up empty.
