NACOGODCHES - Kyle Barnhill has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting his estranged wife as she cooked dinner.
A Nacogdoches jury decided the penalty for the San Augustine native, who was also fined $10,000.
On Thursday, jurors took less than 30 minutes to convict Barnhill in the slaying of Melissa Barnhill at her home.
Police say the 38-year-old woman was preparing dinner for her two children when she was shot through a kitchen window.
She died of a gunshot wound to the neck.
Police say the pair were seperated and divorcing.
The 40-year old Barnhill, who confessed to the murder to police and during his trial, was arrested March 16.
