SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Democratic U.S. Rep. Solomon Ortiz has filed
for a re-count after trailing by less than 800 votes in his fight
to keep his South Texas seat.
Ortiz on Tuesday formally requested a manual re-count with the
Texas secretary of state's office. If approved, a re-count could
begin early as next week.
Ortiz trailed Republican Blake Farenthold by 799 votes following
last week's election. Farenthold has declared victory.
The 73-year-old Ortiz has refused to concede the House seat he
has held since it was created in 1982.
