Aggie defense is playing very well
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M had one of the worst
defenses in the country last season.
New defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter and a change to the 3-4
scheme gave the Aggies confidence. That confidence led to
improvement that's been key to Texas A&M's three-game winning
streak and new No. 23 ranking.
The Aggies allowed more than 426 yards and 33.5 points a game in
last year's 6-7 season. Through nine games this year, the Aggies
are in the top 50 in yards allowed with 346.8 and top 40 in points
given up with 21.2.
DeRuyter says it took time to instill his values and style into
the defense, but the players have bought into his teachings.
