AS REPORTED IN THE LUFKIN DAILY NEWS:
A family of six lost everything in a Monday house fire off Airport Road south of Lufkin.
For the Hamilton family, Monday started off like any other. Dad, Timothy Hamilton, took the kids to school and Mom, Rebecca, headed to work.
“I left the house to get some parts for my 18-wheeler and I came back to this,” Timothy Hamilton said, watching as Fuller Springs and Diboll volunteers fought to put out the blaze.
When the volunteer departments arrived around 10:30 a.m., the two-story home on Fairview Drive was engulfed in flames.
“All but the garage was on fire. Flames were coming through the roof on the second floor,” said Bobby Cranford, Fuller Springs Volunteer Fire chief.
Cranford said an investigator will be out in the next couple of days to determine the source of the blaze. While it does appear the Hamiltons had insurance, the house is a total loss. The Red Cross planned to put the family up in a hotel for the night.
