A huge Wednesday night fire nearly destroyed the Sedgwick County, Kansas home of one of Santa's "special helpers".
Dan Pracht's soot-stained Santa suit somehow survived the blaze.
"It's not too bad of shape for where it's been," Pracht said of the suit. "The north end of house is burnt. The floors have holes in it."
Pracht is one of Santa's helpers.
He plays Jolly Old St. Nick at events every year.
What happened Wednesday night caught him and his family by surprise.
Almost all their possessions are now gone after flames tore through their basement and all the way up to the attic.
"There really was nothing you could do," Dan said. "We tried it with a garden hose, but it was like spitting on a fire."
Not only is he one of Santa's helpers, but Dan is also a great grandfather who's extremely grateful that all six of his family members, including two great grandkids, got out safely.
"These are things that can be replaced and that's the main thing," Anna said.
One thing that won't have to be replaced is Dan's famous red suit, allowing the jolly helper to continue to help out the big guy during the Holidays.
"Yeah, Santa will be there," assured Dan.
"You've got to have Santa Clause for Christmas," said Anna.
Fire investigators were at the house most of the day Thursday still trying to determine what caused the fire.
The home isn't expected to be a total loss, but the family plans on renting a place until the home is suitable to live in again.
