A young couple moving to a small town in Missouri from Colorado fought a man' attempting to steal their car with their 6-month-old baby inside Monday night in Kansas City.
It happened when they pulled into a gas station in the middle of their move across country.
The 24-year-old mom didn't want her name to be used because she's scared that the man behind the crime is still out there.
"I close my eyes and I see him backing up and not knowing what to do. My body took control but my brain didn't. It sometimes feels like it didn't happen except for how I feel physically and emotionally," said the mother.
She said they pulled into the gas station to fill up with gas and change a diaper.
They left the baby in the car, with the keys still in the ignition, and walked over to talk to their family.
Their other kids were in moving trucks with the mom's brother and their grandma.
She said it was only a couple seconds when everything happened.
"I ended up busting out the window with my elbow and lost my footing and started getting dragged because I wouldn't let go of the car and I just kept saying my baby my baby my baby, " she said.
She didn't have a plan because it all happened so fast, but she knew she was not going to let him get away without a fight for her baby.
"Where ever my baby was going to go I was going to try and hold on for dear life. I really didn't know," said the mom.
Police said the 22-year-old father jumped through the broken window and started kicking the man in the head.
"My husband, he was in there kicking him saying get out my baby is in this car my baby is in this car and then they kind of crashed into the embankment," said the mom.
The would-be carjacker jumped out and ran.
The parents grabbed the baby.
They suffered minor injuries.
"My arm is completely bruised, I have road rash from my back down to my hip and my butt and my knees are all scraped up," said the mom.
She's glad her daughter is safe and survived the whole ordeal without even a scratch on her.
She just hopes police can catch the man who almost stole her baby.
