New numbers show the popularity of hunting is down nationwide...but that doesn't seem to be the case here in Texas.
According to local processors, it's just the opposite. In fact, some are running out of room.
Smith County Game Warden Chris Green says some local deer processors have had to close their doors for 5 to 7 days, just so they can catch up with the work coming in.
He says more deer have been harvested around the state this season due to a combination of things.
"I haven't seen processors shut down actually, and they have been, so, you know, more deer, the antler restriction is helping, and the surrounding counties...plus good fawn crops in the past years," Green said.
Green says hunting license sales have also increased for Texas.
