With the Christmas season comes Christmas shopping and of course…Christmas traffic.
So why would one of the busiest intersections in Tyler be tied up with construction when traffic is the heaviest it will be all year?
The corner of Highway 64 and the Loop has everything. There is a WalMart, gas stations, grocery store, fast food restaurants and it’s the road that leads to the airport.
So of course, with Christmas shoppers already clogging the roads, there’s no better time to shut it down for construction.
While everyone knows that every few years, you’re going to have to resurface a highway, the question remains, why now?
While drivers sitting in a mile-long jam are getting as steamy as a ‘65 MG, Larry Krantz with TxDot says that the work simply has to be done now because of a fortunate break in the weather.
Obviously, there’s never a good time to bog down traffic, but these drivers have to wonder if Christmas was the only weather break they could have used.
So, everyone try to be patient, Krantz tells us the construction will move on down the road and the intersection should be clear soon.
