We're heading into the last couple of weeks of deer season in much of the state.
Throughout this past hunting season, many reports have come in about folks hunting where they're not supposed to.
You may not realize, Texas Game Warden's commonly use deer decoys to catch those trying to hunt illegally from the side of the road.
It's a dangerous practice that Texas Parks and Wildlife is trying to put a stop to.
Drivers will sometimes spot a deer on someone's property, pull over, and try to shoot the deer.
If it happens to be a decoy, game warden's are there to catch the hunter in the act.
Smith County Game Warden Chris Green tells us, some eager illegal hunters just don't get it.
"They continue to reload and jack another shell in, shoot, shoot multiple times and...we could walk right up on these folks without them even knowing we're there, because they're just so focused on shooting a deer," Green said.
Green says since penalties for illegal hunting have gotten much harsher in recent years...they have seen a decrease in people shooting off of public roads.
