BEN WHEELER - On a rainy Saturday afternoon in Ben Wheeler, author John Borgstedt is inside his home working on one of 2 different film projects that are meant to help others.
His book, "I Love You Mom, Please Don't Break My Heart" sold over 35,000 copies in just one quarter of last year.
"The book is basically about a little boy who was abused, not just by his mother, but his father. My mother's also tried to kill me several times, not just by sedation, but also strangulation and many other methods of cruelty as well that's probably unimaginable to the human mind," Borgstedt said.
Sondra Martin Hicks with Heartstone pictures is working on the first of 2 John Borgstedt projects.
"I'm producing a documentary that's a little bit about his past, but it's about what he's doing now and what he's doing to try to make a difference in the world for kids that need somebody to care," Hicks said.
After work on the documentary is complete, Hicks is planning a feature film project based on "I Love You Mom."
In the meantime, Borgstedt travels and speaks full time - hoping to make a difference in the lives of children who are experiencing the same struggles he once did.
"God has taken a big part in my life. God has definitely led me to where I'm at now and it is because of him that I've been able to help these kids and do what I do today," Borgstedt said.
It took Borgstedt years to write "I Love You Mom," but now he already has 6 more books coming out in the coming months.
