Husband's estate left to son, not Smith
WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court will discuss whether Anna Nicole Smith's estate should get part of the fortune left behind by her elderly Texas billionaire husband. That's according to the Associated Press.
Lawyers for Smith, who is deceased, plan to provide evidence today that her estate deserves around $1.6 billion from her late J. Howard Marshall's estate. Marshall's will left nearly all his money to his son, E. Pierce Marshall, and nothing to Smith. Before Smith died, she testified that Marshall promised to leave her more than $300 million.
However, a federal appeals court sided with a Houston jury that said Marshall was mentally fit when he left his estate to his son and nothing to Smith.
Marshall died in 1995, his son died in 2006 and Smith died in 2007.
