Longview Community Ministries kicks off "Souper" Bowl Sunday activities this week. The mission of the annual event is to encourage our community to join the fight against hunger and poverty. Groups and individuals celebrating the "Souper" Bowl will collect canned goods and non-perishable foods for the Food Box of Longview Community Ministries.
The Food Box is the largest food pantry in Longview and served approximately 16,000 families in 2010, distributing over 31,000 bags of food.
For individuals hosting parties in their homes and businesses, Longview Community Ministries will deliver collection boxes and signage to encourage the festivities and donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items.
Longview churches participating in "Souper" Bowl Sunday have the opportunity to join in some friendly competition with other area churches, beginning with a "pre-game" warm-up on Sunday, January 30th. The competition runs through Super Bowl Sunday on February 6th. Winners will be announced the following week.
