NACOGDOCHES - A local man is in police custody after a mid-morning bank robbery at the Commercial Bank of Texas branch located inside Wal Mart, 4810 North Street.
The robbery alarm was activated at the bank at 10:11 a.m. The police department was able to obtain a description from the teller of the suspect while police were enroute to the scene.
Eight minutes later, at 10:19 am, a Nacogdoches Police Patrol Unit stopped the suspect, who was on foot, on Klein Drive, which is off of the Northeast Loop. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
According to NPD Sgt. Greg Sowell, the suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note, demanding money. The teller then complied by giving the suspect an undetermined amount of money. The suspect then walked out of Wal Mart and fled on foot. No weapon was displayed.
" Everyone did a great job, the bank personnel, Wal Mart employees and our officers", said Sgt. Sowell. "They are all to be commended".
Business was not interrupted at Wal Mart, but the bank branch was closed while the scene was investigated.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived at the scene, and the case will be turned over to them.
The identity of the suspect will be released in a later advisory when he is formally charged.
