EAST TEXAS-- Last Friday, various East Texas officials spent the day cleaning up wrecks. With more ice on the way, they hope drivers are ready for another round. Higher speed, more traffic, and heavy trucks led to a number of crashes on Interstate 20, Highway 155, and U.S. 69.
Smith and Gregg County officials agree that I-20 was the worst. They say this is because a majority of crashes take place on highly traveled roads.
Longview police say Friday's wrecks totaled 49 spread all over the city . Tyler police say most of their calls came from slopes and bridges like Highway 271.
Here are East Texas roads that had the most accidents Friday: Interstate 20, U.S. 69, Highway 155, Hollybrook Drive in Longview, and S. Broadway and Highway 271 in Tyler. Officials expect those same roads to be just as dangerous this time around, but they warn drivers every road is dangerous when ice hits.
