CANTON--Six Quitman ISD students and one teacher were in a suburban when officials believe the teacher lost control of the wheel and the car rolled.
The accident happened on FM 17 in Canton, near Interstate 20 just before 3 o'clock this afternoon.
Department of Public Safety troopers tell us when the SUV rolled, three of them were injured and taken to Mother Frances in Tyler.
One student--15 year-old Skylar Carpenter was ejected from the car and killed. We're told the group was driving to San Antonio for a Future Farmers of America trip.
our newspaper partner the Longview News-Journal spoke with school officials tonight who released the names of the kids who were injured in the wreck: Colton Otto, Brittany Lowry, Kyle Soto, and Brandi Holcolmbe. The paper also reports Skylar--who was killed was sitting in the far back seat on the passenger side of the SUV. She was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Skylar's mom is the assistant principal of Quitman High School, and her dad is the Vice President of the school board.
