JACKSONVILLE - Lon Morris College in Jacksonville sent out the following letter to its campus community today, about a gun found on campus Saturday:
Dear LMC Community,
At approximately 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 19, 2011, while performing routine searches of random rooms, Campus Security found a firearm in Fair Hall. Upon finding the firearm, Campus Security immediately notified the Jacksonville Police Department who then confiscated the weapon. Officials of the College were notified and the student was promptly expelled. The Student Code of Conduct is clear that firearms are not permitted on campus. Possessing firearms on campus is definitely not in keeping with the expectations the College has of its students. I would like to express the College’s appreciation to Campus Security and the Jacksonville Police Department for their quick and thoughtful response.
If you are ever aware of a student in possession of a firearm on campus, please immediately notify Campus Security by calling (903) 262-6860. Lon Morris College participates in Crime Stoppers which enables you to anonymously report information to Campus Security. Cash rewards are available for those who provide information that contributes to the safety of the campus (i.e. theft, possession of illegal substances, or other violations of published college policies, rules, or regulations).
The Student Code of Conduct is located in the Student Handbook and is available at www.lonmorris.edu [2].
Should you have questions, please feel free to ask by emailing (ransley@lonmorris.edu [3]) or calling (903) 589-4003.
