TYLER - Feral hogs are a growing problem in the state and landowners continued attempts to kill them off doesn't appear to be working. In fact, officials say, feral hogs are such an issue they're in season year round in Texas.
Reports suggest some are looking to remove the one illegal way to kill a pig, by poisoning them.
To address the issue, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services is testing a new feeder, which they say, only hogs can access.
Inside the trap, feed is poisoned with sodium nitrate, ironically small amounts of sodium nitrate is used as a preservative for bacon.
Some believe even if you build a better hog trap the hogs will still find a way around it.
