The Department of Public Safety says Regus "Ricky" Bell was traveling on Farm to Market Road 317 just a few miles from his home.
Bell swerved to avoid an oncoming car making an illegal pass when he was side-swiped.
The truck left the road and rolled several times.
Bell had 2 nephews with him, they were both flown to a local hospital.

HENDERSON COUNTY — The Department of Public Safety has confirmed a Smith County Deputy was killed in a Henderson County crash.
Ricky Bell was traveling on Farm to Market Road 314 and Farm to Market Road 206 at the time.
In 2007, Bell was the recipient of the Dale Geddie Memorial Award for Peace Officer.
