Neighbor: 'Things like this just don't happen here'
FRANKSTON, Texas (AP) - The Department of Public Safety says an
officer-involved shooting in East Texas has left a suspect dead.
DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange told The Associated Press that the
shooting happened Thursday afternoon in Frankston.
Mange says the officer was not shot, but "there is a suspect
that is deceased."
The father of the deceased man said his son is 29-year-old Jason Cumby of Athens.
Witnessed said it was a "peaceful" day and kids played in their yards before the incident occurred. A handful of neighbors said two men broke into a house before someone called police. Officers arrived and an altercation took place. Some say 15-16 bullets were exchanged.
No word on who shot the Cumvy.
Frankston is a community of about 1,300, located 95 miles
southeast of Dallas.
