RUSK COUNTY — Jessica Carson entered a not guilty plea Monday morning in a Rusk County District courtroom with Judge Clay Gossett presiding.
Carson is charged with capital murder in connection with the Dec. 2, 2008 beating death of her 13-month-old daughter, Amora Bain Carson.
In opening arguments, Rusk County District Attorney Micheal Jimerson told jurors that Amora did not die easily, and said she suffered for hours, not minutes.
Jimerson told the jury that the only thing that he and the defendant's attorney would agree on was that Blaine Keith Milam was the one that killed Amora.
"However, Jessica played a party in the acts," Jimerson said.
Milam was found guilty almost a year ago by a Conroe jury and was sentenced to die by lethal injection.
No witnesses have been called to the stand at this time.
Prosecution resumed opening arguments at 11 a.m.
