Body recovered by state police divers
Elephant Butte, NM — The Associated Press is reporting; authorities say the body of a Texas man who drowned while swimming at Elephant Butte Lake State Park has been recovered.
New Mexico park officials say preliminary reports indicate the 26-year-old El Paso man jumped into the water from the dock near Marina Del Sur for a swim Saturday.
The water temperature at the lake was about 58. Park officials say a person who has been in cold water for
several minutes may not be able to hold their breath and any loss in coordination can result in cramping, making swimming difficult.
When temperatures are below 60, they recommend that swimmers wear a lifejacket and a wet suit.
