TYLER - Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods stores have initiated a scan coupon donation program to benefit earthquake victims of Haiti through American Red Cross efforts.
Customers can purchase a $1 or $5 coupon when they check out, and all donations will go to the Red Cross to help people affected by the catastrophe that struck on January 12.
The Tyler, Texas-based grocery company will match the first $10,000 that customers donate in this program, which will last indefinitely.
The Red Cross has estimated that more than a million people could be affected by the disaster.
"We've conducted similar disaster relief efforts in the past, such as hurricane relief programs," said President and CEO Rick Rayford. "It gives our employees and customers a chance to easily contribute and help these victims."
