Tyler — Today, President Obama was to give a speech about the Middle East, and many thought the most controversial thing he we would mention was giving that part of the world more money.
But, the U.S. president stunned the crowd by saying he thinks Israel and Palestine should go back to the original borders set for those countries before the 1967 6-day war.
Let me get right to the point with this.
East Texas is a religious community, and I am sure Christians will have plenty to say about this on Sunday. But this is not a religious program, so I will keep it this secular.
Israel is our ally. A good one.
As far as the rest of the middle east. I think we should strive to be at peace with everyone. But, Israel is our ally.
In a statement released late Thursday, Benjamin Netanyahu called the 1967 lines "indefensible." The tough words could set the stage for a tense meeting Friday when Netanyahu goes to the White House.
Netanyahu said such a withdrawal would jeopardize Israel's security and leave major West Bank settlements outside Israeli borders. Already there are those saying the president will have trouble with the Jewish community raising money for the next election.
But, there are many Jews who will still support the president and still raise money for his presidency. Whatever your take on this, this was a bombshell. And in my opinion, a huge mistake.
That's my point of view, what's yours?
