Kabul, Afghanistan — NATO says one of its soldiers has died after an explosion in southern Afghanistan.
Wednesday's statement from the alliance says the soldier died from wounds received from an improvised explosive device attack.
NATO says the soldier died on Tuesday. The coalition did not disclose the nationality of the deceased.
An Associated Press count shows that 29 NATO soldiers have died so far this month in Afghanistan. So far this year, 180 coalition soldiers have died in operations across the country.
NATO plans to hand over control of seven areas to Afghan soldiers in July, despite new bombings and assaults by insurgents who have begun their spring offensive. The U.S. plans to begin gradual drawdown of troops at the same time.
