Dr. Dudley Goulden of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler says, "Individuals who sit and play video games or watch television if they are doing this more than four hours a day there is an extremely high risk of developing cardio-vascular disease and that risk is probably equivalent to the risk of smoking at least in one study."
Cigarettes have long been known to cause a varity of heath issue including heart disease and cancer of the mouth and lungs. Experts say sitting for a long time is it's own health risk including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and even early death now, the study says they could be one in the same.
One East Texan tells KETK, "I could see that would happen, that if you sat around lazy all the time it would do just as much harm as smoking."
So you might think it's ok to sit down for while, because you've just exercised. Experts say unless you do that regularly, you'll still run into the same problem.
"You can exercise and your improving your risk for developing heart disease but if you don't exercise and sit for a long period of time that increases your risk for developing heart disease."
