WASHINGTON — (AP) - A 22-year-old Fort Hood soldier has died in the blast of an improvised explosive device in Iraq.
A Defense Department statement says Pfc. Matthew England of Gainesville, Mo., died Wednesday in the blast in the An Najaf province of southwestern Iraq.
England's mother, Pamela Hengen of Gainesville, says her son was a tank crew member who deployed with his unit in August for Iraq.
She said he was scheduled to return this August.
England was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Fort Hood, Texas.
