MINEOLA — Mineola police are investigating Guiding Lights Child Car in Mineola after a worker is caught allegedly slamming a 5-year-old boy on a table and apparently dragging him by the arm.
Rebecca Robertson has been taking her son, Aiden, there for three and a half years.
Last week, she says a child care worker there--who was fired a week ago for an unrelated incident--capture surveillance video from her cell phone.
Robertson walks KETK through the video, telling us Aiden was in trouble for not keeping quiet. She says the day care worker appeared to slam Aiden on a table and drag him by the arm out of the camera's sight.
She says, "It was just gut-wrenching to see my kid be so helpless and hear him scream." Robertson says her son has been under the care of this worker for a year and a half, but she never knew what was happening. "Seeing that video, it makes me wonder how many other times has she lost her temper with him or the other kids," Robertson says.
Robertson was so disturbed by the video she decided to call police, who are still investigating the case.
The day care worker in the video did not want to comment. Guiding Light Child Care has a note on their front door telling parents that worker has been released. They also had no comment.
5-year-old Aiden says, through it all, he was more scared than hurt. "She's big, and I'm a little kid. There's not any reason for her to do that to me," Aiden says.
Child Protective Services is also investigating the case for abuse and neglect.
