Incandescent bulbs banned effective Jan. 1, 2012
Tyler, TX — Technology is outpacing the old standard. The Energy Independence and Security Act mandates that more energy efficient lights take the place of the old incandescent's we've used since nearly the days of Thomas Edison.
But try telling East Texans to get rid of their old bulbs and buy new ones.
However, some east texans, maybe surprisigly support, and are already on board the new energy efficient bulb. But some might be a bit concerned by the contents of these new bulbs, which contain small amounts of mercury.
Some reports say there are cancer-causing materials in the bulbs. Right now the scientific community is fighting that one out.
But most folks KETK spoke to aren't quite sold on the safety.
Some East Texans say they'll stock on up on the old incandescents...
just in case.
