TYLER —
On Friday, July 1, 2011 Tyler Police were called to the Dove Tree Apartments located at 1600 Rice Road around 3:45 a.m. on a suspicious vehicle driving thru the parking lot. Officers were told that the driver of the vehicle was driving very slow and had his face covered with a bandanna.
When officers arrived in the area they observed the vehicle they were looking for burning rubber exiting from the parking lot of American State Bank located at 5202 Old Jacksonville Hwy.
The officer observed a large chain dragging behind the truck that was occupied with one driver and two B/M occupants in the bed of the pick-up. The suspect vehicle fled from police when the officer attempted to pull them over on Rice Road. The suspect vehicle drove down Tyler Park Drive located on the west side of Dove Tree Apartments that is a dead end road. All three suspects bailed from the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.
Officers set up a perimeter and caught one of the suspects as he exited the woods.
Officers discovered that the suspects had attempted to pull the ATM machine from its pedestal at American State Bank. The suspects were caught in the act of the attempted theft and were unable to obtain the cash from the machine.
Officers also determined that the suspects had stolen the maroon Z71 pickup from Meadow Brook Apartments located at 4600 Paluxy.
Police arrested William Alexander Walker, B/M, 08/12/1989, of Garland TX. Walker was charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest Detention/Vehicle. Charges are pending for the incident with the ATM machine at American State Bank and will be filed this morning.
Police are still seeking the identity and whereabouts of the two other suspects that got away when they ran into the wooded area.
