Longview, TX — The Gregg County Courthouse is going to be more efficient in a few weeks after the 28-year-old analog telephone system is replaced with a new digital voice over IP telephone system.
Gregg County Information Technology Director Derold Miller said the new digital telephone system will be able to handle more phone calls, as well as offer perks to Gregg County employees that will make routing phone calls more efficient.
“The new phone integrates with more of the applications we have in place at the courthouse. It will let employees instant message over the network and voicemail's will be emailed directly, which will allow them to play them faster or slower,” Miller said. “It will also allow the employees to look up telephone numbers on the Web page in the directory, click on the name and it will dial directly. It’s going to make the courthouse a lot more efficient with call routing and employees jobs will be that much more efficient.”
Gregg County Budget Director Linda Bailey said the county budgeted $675,000 this year for technology projects, including upgrades to computer software and licenses, the telephone system at the courthouse, Gregg County Jail, the veteran services center and the Gregg County service center.
