Longview, TX — Pilgrim's Pride and Occupational Safety Health Administration officials are investigating the Wednesday morning death of a night shift supervisor.
According to Pilgrim's Pride spokesman Gary Rhodes, fire department and emergency medical services were dispatched to Pilgrim's Pride protein conversion plant in Mount Pleasant at around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning in connection with an employee, Jimmy Bynum, being pinned under the back wheels of a truck.
"We're still gathering information, but at this point it appears that a truck was backing into the protein conversion bay shortly after 1 a.m.," Rhodes said.
He said Bynum was pinned under the back wheels of the truck as it backed into the bay.
Bynum was wearing a safety vest when the incident occurred, according to Rhodes.
Bynum was transported to Titus Regional Hospital, where he was then flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, where he was later pronounced dead.
Bynum had worked for Pilgrim's for 25 years.
