TYLER — UPDATE : KETK has learned one of the victims injured, 15 year old Gaylon Cox, later passed away at the hospital from the injuries he sustained in the wreck.
On July 31, 2011 at approximately 1:54 a.m. the Tyler Police Department learned of a motor vehicle accident located within the 5100 block of Troup Hwy. When officers arrived on scene they were informed that a black 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee had collided with a green 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. Immediately, officers learned that at least one passenger in the Oldsmobile Alero, Jacob Clay, 22, from Tyler was deceased. Two additional passengers from the Oldsmobile Alero, including a juvenile whose name is presently being withheld, were also transported to area hospitals for life-threatening injuries.
While on scene officers located the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, identified as Edward Marin, 51, from Tyler, who officers determined was intoxicated and caused the accident. As a result of their investigation officers placed Edward Marin under arrest and transported him to the Smith County jail where he was booked-in on one count of Intoxicated Manslaughter and two counts of Intoxicated Assault. Due to the nature of the accident Tyler Police Department Accident Investigators, Crime Scene Investigators and Major Crime Detectives responded to the scene.
