LONGVIEW, TX, — With standing heat is part and parcel of being a firefighter, and Longview’s public servants proves that, given a good cause, they’ll gladly do so even if there’s no fire. The Longview Fire Department and the Muscular Dystrophy Association are teaming up again this year to raise money to help families in East Texas living with neuromuscular disease.
On the first three Fridays of August, the 5th, 12th, and 19th, the Longview fire fighters will participate in MDA’s Fill-the-Boot Campaign. This year Longview Fire Department will be taking their boot drive to the streets to raise money for MDA. Firefighters will be located at the intersections of Loop 281 & 4th St.; Loop 281 & Gilmer Rd.; Loop 281 & Estes Parkway. In 2010 Longview firefighters raised $52,434 through their fill the boot efforts. This year they hope to surpass last year’s total.
Longview Fire Department would like to thank the citizens of Longview and the surrounding towns for always supporting their Fill the Boot efforts. Longview Fire Department would not be able to help MDA help so many local MDA families without your support. MDA and the Longview Fire Department would also like to thank the City of Longview for supporting our efforts to eradicate neuromuscular disease.
Funds raised through the Fill-The-Boot campaign enables MDA to provide the very best in patient care and services, including clinic visits, support groups, repair to medical equipment, summer camp for children ages 6- 17, and worldwide research efforts seeking treatments and cures for the 43 neuromuscular diseases covered by the association. MDA’s East Texas Chapter serves over 400 families affected by neuromuscular diseases.
Citizens can drop donations at any Longview Fire Department station to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association until the Labor Day Weekend Telethon on September 4th.
