LONGVIEW — A Tarrant County medical examiner has ruled 30-year-old Micah Aaron Garner's cause of death "nocturnal adult death with evidence of recent ingestion of methamphetamine."
Garner was pronounced dead at about 8:45 p.m. on June 6 after being found unresponsive in a medical holding cell at Gregg County Jail, jail officials have said.
According to an autopsy report by Tarrant County Medical Examiner Marc Krouse, toxicology reports revealed a "low level" of methamphetamine in Garner's blood, but noted that it could not be "directly attributed to the death at such a low level."
Krouse said there were no signs of notable trauma or foul play, and the cause of death was ruled "nocturnal adult death with evidence of recent ingestion of methamphetamine." He also listed the official manner of death as undetermined.
Garner had been in jail since June 3. He was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and forgery of a financial instrument. He also had two outstanding Lakeport warrants for traffic violations.
Garner's death was the second in Gregg County Jail in less than six months.
Amy Lynn Cowling, 33, was pronounced dead on Dec. 29 at an area hospital after being found unresponsive in a Gregg County Jail separation cell.
