The ATF is staying busy in East Texas.
First it was burning churches, now the problem is Molotov Cocktails,
Molotov Cocktails are those gas-filled bottles that are used to create fires.
Invented in the Spanish Civil War, they are a cheap and simple incendiary device.
So far, we have confirmed that two were found, at post office facilities in Owentown and in Kilgore, and two more in Rusk County.
Today investigators reportedly found at least five more incendiary devices at the South Main Post Office in Henderson.
They had simply been left in the mail collection box outside the building.
“Objects here at the Post Office, inside the mailbox…some sort of liquid,” says Lt. Craig Sweeney of the Henderson Police. “They were taken out of the boxes by the mail carriers and we looked at them. We called the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms people out of Tyler and the Postal Inspectors office in the Dallas/fort Worth area.”
The ATF cannot confirm if the new ones are related to last week’s incidents, and Postal Service Inspectors are on the scene.
In fact, it cannot be confirmed if the items were Molotov Cocktails in the traditional sense with actual flammable liquid inside.
“It is serious…the intimidation factor possibly,” Sweeney said. “It could be a number of things…hoax bomb, or anything like that.”
Bomb sniffing dogs were used to help locate any possible new devices, bit none were found.
And authorities are asking that any information or tips be passed onto the Postal Service or the ATF.
