Cherokee County — Officials with the Texas Forest Service tell KETK crews on the scene the fire was started by an illegal burn.
Authorities say a man was burning trash in a barrel by his trailer home, and the fire got away from him.
The man will be cited for burning during a burn ban, and for destruction of property.
Fire officials say approximately five acres have burned. A command center has been set up on County Rd. 1615 for the firefighters.
No structures have been damaged.
Fire officials have closed off Highway 69 near County Road 1615.
According to firefighters on the scene, they are lining the highway to prevent flames from jumping the roadway, which has already happened today.
Livestock and structures are in danger. At least one house has been evacuated at this time.
Air support has been called in to help battle the blaze.
Multiple fire departments are battling a grass fire on County Road 1615 near Jacksonville.
A Jacksonville fire official says two plows have been deployed and a handful of departments are on the way to help.
Several structures are in danger.
