FORT BLISS, Texas—A Fort Bliss Soldier supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom died March 16, in Mosul, Iraq. Staff Sgt. Richard J. Jordan died of injuries sustained during a vehicle roll-over. Jordan was assigned to A Company, 1-36 Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
According to available records, Jordan, 29 of Tyler, Texas, was an Infantryman who came on active duty with the Army in June 2003. He was previously stationed at Camp Red Cloud, Korea, Fort Carson, Co., and at Great Lakes Recruiting Battalion in Lansing, Mi. Jordan’s military education includes the Warrior Leader Course and Army Recruiter training. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
Jordan is survived by his wife and two children.
A memorial ceremony in honor of this fallen Soldier will be coordinated and announced at a later date.
Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division deployed to Southwest Asia in November 2009, to support the coalition mission.
