dallas — Thousands remain without power after storms that moved across Texas brought winds up to 70 mph that downed trees and power lines.
Dallas-based Oncor says crews are working to restore electricity to more than 6,200 customers, most in East Texas and the Dallas area. About 30,000 homes and businesses had lost power.
CenterPoint Energy says around 2,600 residents, most in Houston, remain without power on Thursday. That figure is down from about 79,000 customers at the height of the storm.
Wednesday's storms brought high winds but not much rain for drought-stricken Texas.
The National Weather Service says scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds are possible across much of North Texas and in the Houston area on Thursday. But the intense heat is also expected to continue for the state.
