East Texas — Updates on several East Texas fires around the area are rolling into the KETK news room :
The U-S Forest Service has set up a command center at the East Texas Regional Airport in order to handle dispatching units across the East Texas are.
Texas Forest Service officials tell KETK the fire in Anderson County on HWY 19 has burned 1,000 acres so far and has been named the New Chapel Fire.
There have been no injuries reported. One fireman was treated for dehydration. A few structures have been lost so far.
They also say the fire 40% contained at this time.
Upshur County Fire Marshal Paul Steelman says a fire on FM 2796 north of astor road has now crossed over the road and is threatening that area.
Also 300 acres are reportedly on fire in the Union Hill Area.
Gregg County Judge Bill Stout saying Gregg and Upshur county firemen are working together to contain a 500 acre fire and are having county precinct crews help out
The 300 acre fire near elderville is reportedly under control at this time.
