At approximately 2 p.m. today the City of Longview activated the City’s Emergency Operations Center to coordinate and assist the many jurisdictions that are involved in fighting various wildfires in Gregg and surrounding counties.
The City of Longview has also opened Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, 100 Grand Blvd, as a temporary shelter for those faced with evacuations. The City is in a position to assist those with the sheltering of animals if the need arises. Anyone needing shelter as a result of the recent wild fires can go to this location.
Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable food and drink items can take those donations to the Longview Fire Department’s Fire Station #6 located at 2808 McCann Road, Longview, Texas.
City and County Officials are continuing to monitor the situation. Updates will be issued as information becomes available and the situation progresses.
Officials urge citizens to avoid those areas in which fires are burning as this creates an additional problem for first responders to effectively deploy resources to fight the fires.
