East Texas — EAST TEXAS — Latest update from Texas Forest Service:

NOTE FROM FIRE MARSHAL: A large portion of East Texas in currently experiencing smoke coverage. This is due to high humidity and a lack of wind surrounding several East Texas forest fires, according to information from the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office. Please DO NOT call 9-1-1- to report smoke in the air, emergency services are aware of the condition. It is imperative that 9-1-1 lines stay clear to report active emergencies.
From Rusk County Sheriff's Dept.: Fire on FM 850 and County Road 113, in New London is 100% contained. No evacuations and no road closures. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the night.
RUSK COUNTY UPDATE: Fires on County Road 4114, and 316D are 100% contained. Residents living on 316D will not be allowed to return to your homes tonight. County Road 4114 is opened for traffic; however use extreme caution when driving on this road.
From the Rusk County Sheriffs Office: Continue to pray for rain, mild winds and all those involved in fighting these fires. God Bless!! All fires are contained and firefighters will remain on scene at all locations throughout the night.
Nacogdoches Co. Sheriff's Dept.: Fire has reached approximately 5000 acres and spans from near State Hwy 204 to State Hwy 21 along the Angelina River between Nacogdoches and Cherokee Counties. No idea when we will gain containment.
Evacuations are still in place for Smith County on County Road 26. At this time, 430 acres have burned. It is 75% contained. Fire officials recieved calls for 10 illegal burns in that area.
Gregg County evacuations are over. The Sheriff's Department says, everyone can now return home.
RUSK COUNTY-- Those evacuated on 4110D, 4113, and 487 may return to your residence.
CHEROKEE COUNTY--- Highway 135 from177 to Troup closed due to a fire in Mixon.
Carlisle ISD: all classes resume tomorrow, sporting events still up in air.
A female New London firefighter was injured by a fall during the fires. She is going to be alright. They are not releasing her name at this time or information regarding specifics of what happened
UPDATE: All Anderson County fires contained. Currently putting out hot spots. Acres burned: 5,850.
Anderson - (FM 228) 800 acres, contained with hot spots being put out.
Anderson - (FM 321) 3700 acres, 3 homes were directly saved.
Anderson - Fire on 1219 is contained with hot spots.
Fire on FM 222 is contained.
Fires on FM 294 is burning but is contained.
On FM 294 most people have been allowed to go home. But might still have some being evacuated.
UPDATE: (Marion County) Acres burned: Unknown at last check (was 30,000). Boot Walker Fire contained, putting out hot spots. No evacuations at this time.
UPDATE: Acres burned: 30,000. Containment is unknown.
Cass County - Bear Creek fire covers 15,000 acres and stretches from Linden to Jefferson. not contained
Cass County- Hootsville Fire off of CR 4448. 900 plus acres in Pine Plantation. Fire is contained.
Cherokee County - (Mixon fire) Multiple fire departments are en route to a fire on Highway 135 in Mixon. There is a road closure for Hwy 135 around 177 to Troup.
UPDATE: (Angelina River Bottom Fire) The Fire has spread fully into Cherokee county now. It is not contained and officials are evacuating County Roads 1213, 1208 and 1212.
Cherokee County - New fire has branched off Angelina River Bottom fire near Reklaw. Fire spreading off Highway 204, burning toward FM 343. Fire is threatening the Sacal Lilbert area. Containment is unknown. Acres Burned: 1,000.
UPDATE: (Moore Fire) Fire located off Highway 135 and is 95% contained. Acres burned: 1,300. Fire personnel evacuating Liberty City/ Meridian Street, Omaha Street and Spokane Street near Hwy 135 and north of Wilkins road, which is south of Gladewater.
UPDATE: (Cole Bottom) Fire located off Highway 135/CR 2207 and is 70% contained. No structures are in danger. Acres burned: 400.
UPDATE: (North Cole Bottom) Fire has been contained. Acres burned: unknown.
UPDATE: (North Cole Bottom) A new fire has branched off the Cole bottom fire, jumping north across a nearby river. The fire has been contained.
UPDATE: Gladewater and Cole Bottom fire have been combined into one large fire. Evacuations are still in place. Fire is 60% contained.
Gregg County (Cole Bottom) - Officials have issued a mandatory evacuation for residents of Swamp City Road on either side of Hwy 135 and over to FM 2207.
Gladewater -The Highway 135 fire is still being worked, but no significant damage has been caused to nearby homes. The exact amount of the fire that has been contained is still unknown, but the flames are slowing down. Evacuees have not been let back into their homes.
UPDATE: White Oak/Old Magnolia fires are 100% contained. Evacuations are no longer in place. Fire caused by high winds and downed power lines. Acres burned: 1,200.
Gregg County - White Oak Rd. fire, 300 acres. 0% contained.
Greg County - (Old Magnolia Fire, near Highway 80) 1000 acres, several structures and a gas plant threatened. 2 fuel tanks exploded. 80% contained.
Harrison County: (Peter Chapel Fire) Fire is 100% contained. Acres burned: 2,000. No evacuations in place.
UPDATE: Highway 31 fire 100% contained. No firefighters on scene. No evacuations in place.
Henderson County - A 2 mile long fire along Highway 31 between Athens and Murchison forced the road to be closed for a short time.
UPDATE: (Angelina River Bottom Fire) Fire is 75% contained in Nacogdoches County. Acres burned: 4,000.
UPDATE: (Angelina River Bottom Fire) Fire is 35-45% contained and officials expect to have it fully contained with the next day or two. Firefighters are asking the public to donate non-perishable foods. The cause of the fire has been narrowed down to a campfire or a limb hitting a power line.
UPDATE: (Angelina River Bottom Fire) 50-100 people evacuated. 4,500 acres burned in Cherokee/Nacogdoches County. Highway 21 remains closed. County Road 3 closed. 75% contained in Nacogdoches County. (Information from Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel)
Nacogdoches County - There are some evacuations in the Upshaw Community in the northwest. Evacuees with small animals are encouraged to bring them to the city's animal shelter. Larger animals such as livestock should be taken to the Expo Center.
Highway 21 between FM 225 in Douglass and Linwood in Cherokee County is closed. The fire is expected to jump the road if it hasn't already. Traffic between Alto and Nacogdoches is asked to find an alternate route.
UPDATE: (Rusk County) County Road 316D under evacuation.
UPDATE: (Highway 42 fire) County Roads 4114 and 4117 in Wright City area are being evacuated and closed.
UPDATE: (Highway 42 fire) The fire is in a heavily wooded area on CR 4117 near Highway 42. Firefighters can not reach the fire, only water drops from helicopters can be used.
UPDATE: (Highway 42 fire) A new fire has developed on CR 4117 near Highway 42. Fire is spreading underground through roots. No fire fighters are on scene yet. Texas Forest Service is en route to make water drops. Acres burned: 10.
UPDATE: Carlisle ISD evacuated. 100% of fires contained. Firefighters putting out hot spots. Acres burned: 525.
Rusk - (Overton area, near Hwy 42) 400 acres, no containment.
Rusk - (Kennedy Rd.) 150 acres, numerous homes threatened. 1 home has been lost. Unknown containment at this time.
Rusk - Fires on 272 in Carlisle (contained), FM 13 & Hwy 132 (caused Carlisle school evacuation), another at CR 4111, another at CR 163 off of 2012.
Rusk - Residents living on County Roads 4110D, 4113, and 487, of Price, must evacuate immediately.
Road closures: County Road 4110D, 4113, and 487 in Price. FM 850 1.5 miles West of Hwy 42, in New London.
UPDATE: The fire on CR 26 has almost moved into a second county, Gregg.
UPDATE: The fire on CR 26 has jumped the roadway. Officials are bringing a semi with a water tank to help fight the fire. Residents are also helping out, using water hoses to try and put out flames. (We do not advise doing this in any way)
UPDATE: (Smith County) - Mandatory evacuations between County Roads 233 and 26. Firefighters are battling the blaze at CR 26. The fire is about 5 blocks from the Jackson Heights area. 6-7 houses are in danger. Firefighters are worried flames are going to jump County Road 26. Two tankers have arrived on scene to keep the fire to one side.
UPDATE: Whitehouse Fire Department is responding to a fire on 757 and County Road 21. The head of the fire is at CR 26 and CR 233.
UPDATE: County Road 240 in the Jackson Heights area is under evacuation. People are being directed to the Carlisle Baptist Church.
UPDATE: (Jackson Heights) 100% contained. Evacuations no longer in place. Kiepersol fire 100% contained.
Smith - (CR 3111) 1,300 acres, 90% contained. Two fatalities reported, 5 homes lost.
Smith - County Roads in the Jackson Heights area are now reopen following Monday night's evacuation on Highway 31 East. The fire will continue to burn in the Jackson Heights area for several days, but no structures are currently in danger. Volunteer Fire departments from around the county will continue to monitor hot spots in the area until the fire is fully contained. The cause of the fire was a bar-b-que pit that was not placed on the concrete. A family was cooking out, and the flames jumped out and onto the ground. The family barely got away with their lives. A total of 500 acres burned.
Smith - SMITH COUNTY — A total of 20 acres has burned near Kiepersol Estates. So far, 9 people have been evacuated from CR 119. Kiepersol has not been affected, just homes nearby. Firefighters are maintaining the blaze now, but the wind is constantly changing directions. One structure has been lost to the rekindled fire.
UPDATE: (Diana) Fire is 50-60% contained. Acres burned: 3,000. No evacuations at this time. 3 houses and 5 sheds destroyed. One person injured fighting fire.
Upshur - (Diana) The fire is on Lilac Road on both sides of Little Cyprus Creek on 726, 2500 acres, the fire is spreading again after reaching 70% containment, 20 homes threatened, 2 unoccupied structures have been destroyed. The fire was caused by a down power line.
Upshur- Toad Rd. Fire. 350 plus Acres off of Llama Rd. and Lizard Rd and has spread across CR 2454. Three homes were lost and a dozen remains threatened. The fire is not contained.
Von View Ranch fire - 350 acres, 80% contained. 20 homes saved.
