HENDERSON, Tx — The Rusk County Commissioners Court reconfirmed its unconditional burn ban Monday morning.
James Pike, emergency management coordinator, said 13 wildfires were continuing across the county, but all apparently had been contained.
“Saying a fire is contained doesn’t mean it’s not still burning and doing damage,” he said. “It’s just means it’s not spreading any further.”
Rusk County has had 18 wildfires in the past two weeks, burning about 5,700 acres, he said. One home has been lost to the blazes, but four other structures, all believed to be abandoned houses, were destroyed.
