GALVESTON, Texas — The Coast Guard is searching the waters near the Galveston causeway after two crudely built sailboats were found apparently capsized.
Union Pacific officials reported the vessels near the West Bay railroad bridge between Galveston and the mainland about 11 a.m. Monday. A Coast Guard statement says both vessels were apparently homemade of wood, 10 to 15 feet long and with green tarpaulins used as sails.
The Coast Guard dispatched a rescue helicopter and two rescue vessels to search. According to the Coast Guard statement, the number of people aboard weren't immediately known.
