GILMER, TX — Upshur County Commissioners adopted a budget that calls, on paper, for about $950,000 to come from reserve funds.
Commissioners voted 4-1 to accept the 2011-12 budget. Commissioner Lloyd Crabtree cast the lone dissenting vote.
"I have never voted to accept a budget where we were pulling $950,000 from reserves," Crabtree said.
Interim County Judge Jim Bowling said he thinks only about $140,000 will actually be taken from reserves.
Last minute cuts to the budget included eliminating all funding for veteran's services, effective Jan. 31, 2012.
Last minute additions included putting $10,000 back in the district attorney's salary budget and increasing the district court's budget.
