Longview, TX — A Longview firefighter was placed on an unpaid administrative leave Tuesday, following a parking lot crash involving a department ambulance.
Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary said firefighters were responding to a report of an unconscious patient at about 9:15 a.m. Monday at Summer Meadows apartment complex on Hollybrook Drive when the unoccupied ambulance rolled down a hill and into a parked car, pushing it into another.
Zackary said the firefighter - whose name has not been released - was responding to the call in one of the city's new ambulances, which has a "different parking procedure than the other ambulances."
"The firefighter parked it based on the procedure of the older medic unit. In the older ambulances you put it in neutral, but in the new one you put it in park," Zackary said.
Zackary said the firefighter was written up, placed on an unpaid administrative leave and would be on probation upon his return.
